ETHICAL JEWELRY,
MAZARIN PARIS

REASON TO BE & MISSION

MAZARIN is convinced that beauty and ethics can coexist harmoniously, that the oxymorons of yesterday and tomorrow can be reconciled by creating contemporary and iconic jewelry.

Hand in hand with nature

Commit to ethically sourcing out our materials

MAZARIN is committed to ensuring that jewelry remains eternal and works to preserve its promising future. As creators, gemologists, and jewelry historians, we are aware that natural resources are depleting, and unacceptable sourcing methods too often persist. This is why we use either, high-quality, environmental-friendly resources of our century such as lab-grown diamonds, or, already extracted resources such as recycled gold.

At MAZARIN, we believe that jewelry can and must become more ethical and conscious of its impact if the dream has to live on to eternity. And this starts here, right now, with our creations.

Our recycled ethical gold

Gold is a material that can be recycled infinitely without any of its qualities deteriorating. The MAZARIN collections use exclusively recycled gold, from objects previously appraised and then melted into pure 24-carat gold ingots. This choice contributes to taking action to protect the planet...

HAND IN HAND WITH KNOW-HOW AND EXPERTISE

COMMITTING TO PROMOTE A HUMANISTIC KNOW-HOW CELEBRATING YESTERDAY'S AND TOMORROW'S KNOWLEDGE

[1] OUR ETHOS

Ethics reflect the values and convictions of a Maison. They are expressed through distinctive choices on environmental, social, and societal issues that we call our ethos.

At MAZARIN, we have chosen to focus on a selection of materials that reflect our environmental convictions, as well as issues of gender equality, a non-normative vision of genders reflected in our jewelry, and principles of fair remuneration throughout the production chain. We are committed to making positive impacts on communities through our jewelry and aligning our actions with our beliefs.

[2] A management duo open to diversity and cultures

Louise de Rothschild and Keagan Ramsamy met while joining the auction house Pierre Bergé & Associés. While they share a passion for gemmology and the history of jewelry, their friendly bond thrives on their complementary strengths.

Starting with their respective cultures, oscillating between West and East in a fruitful exchange, the very balance that has led them to create MAZARIN.

[3] Awareness of the world and our role from the conception to the realization of our jewelry

The design of MAZARIN jewelry is inspired by a quest for meaning. It is the reason why we have chosen the elephant as totem.

Symbolizing strength and temperance in the West, power and authority in Africa, knowledge and wisdom in Hindu mythology, and strength and intelligence in China, the elephant resonates across all cultures.

Paying tribute to the animal’s embodiment of power and fragility, MAZARIN has made the elephant its totem. MAZARIN donates 10% of the sales from the LUCKY ELEPHANT collection and MEMORY CHARM BRACELETS to the Big Life Foundation. This non-profit organization, in partnership with local communities, works to preserve the ecosystem of 160,000 hectares of wilderness in East Africa.

MAZARIN selects its partners who craft its jewelry collections based on excellence and ensuring fair compensation criteria. At it’s level, MAZARIN promotes inclusive practices that encourage accessibility and reward merit without gender discrimination.

[4] GENDERLESS JEWELRY

MAZARIN's creations and communication reflect the belief that beauty is not defined by gender. Each of our jewelry pieces is designed to be an expression of self, whether one identifies as male, female, or non-binary. Our communication mirrors this belief, celebrating jewelry that can be worn by anyone, regardless of gender, embracing a fluid and inclusive approach to design and style.

[5] OUR EXCELLENT CRAFTSMANSHIP

Whether it's our rings, necklaces, cuffs, or earrings, our MAZARIN collections come to life two steps away from Place Vendôme, within our workshops. From drawings to prototypes, each piece undergoes meticulous goldwork (casting, sculpting, polishing, sandblasting...) and then setting, chosen specifically for each creation: heart-setting where the diamond is held in tension by the gold, claw setting to enhance the brilliance of a solitaire, or pavé setting to illuminate a surface.

MAZARIN promotes Made in France and transparency throughout its production line. Given that 95% of diamonds are cut in India, MAZARIN partners with Indian synthetic diamond manufacturers who hold the highest level of certification.

HAND IN HAND TO GUIDE YOUR CHOICES

COMMITTED TO ENCOURAGE YOUR ENLIGHTENED CHOICES

There is no singular definition of ethical jewelry, as the ethos of a Maison are specific and depend on several aspects ranging from its reason to be and act to the environmental, social, and societal impacts that it aims to prioritize during the design, creation, and production phases of its pieces.

However, certain certifications offer guarantee of responsible environmental, social, and governmental (ESG) considerations among suppliers, certifications which we integrate into our responsible sourcing strategy.

HAND IN HAND FOR MEANINGFUL JEWELRY

COMMITTED TO GIVING JEWELRY A LITTLE EXTRA SOUL

Our ethos strive form five major commitments that form the pillars of our responsible sourcing strategy.

We commit to prioritizing materials that have already been extracted by recycling or upcycling them, in order to reduce the environmental impact of our sourcing. For example, we support the use of gold and gemstones sourced from certified ethical origins.

We aim to reduce our environmental footprint by prioritizing innovative materials designed to minimize waste and preserve natural resources. For instance, we support the use of lab-grown diamonds, which provide a sustainable and ethical alternative to traditionally mined diamonds.

We value local skills and craftsmanship by prioritizing workshops in France and local manufacturers in our supply chains. This allows us to support local communities while minimizing carbon emissions associated with transportation.

We are committed to ensuring the traceability of our raw materials from extraction to final use. We work closely with our suppliers to guarantee ethical working conditions and to prevent any form of exploitation or forced labor.

We are committed to maintaining strict quality standards for all our raw materials. This includes rigorous quality testing to ensure the authenticity, durability, and safety of the materials used. MAZARIN transcends boundaries, genders, and norms to offer ethically meaningful jewelry with conviction in a constantly evolving world. We invite everyone to join our journey, where emotion, aesthetics, and ethics intertwine to create a true jewelry experience.

FAQ

SCS 007 is the first international multipartite sustainability standard for diamonds used in jewelry, ensuring that diamonds meet the highest standards of ethical and environmental responsibility. This multipartite standard developed for the diamond sector applies to both natural and lab-grown diamonds, including any entity handling diamonds before they reach the market. The standard sets unprecedented criteria for performance and transparency, including: 1) rigorous environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance; 2) net-zero CO2 footprint; 3) sustainable production practices with net-zero impact; 4) full traceability from origin to market for maximum source certainty; and 5) sustainable investments that support vulnerable communities, further reduce net impacts, and contribute to a safer world.

The SA 8000 standard is an international certification standard that encourages organizations to develop, maintain, and adopt socially acceptable practices in the workplace. It was developed in 1989 by Social Accountability International (SAI), a subsidiary of the Council on Economic Priorities, and is considered the most universally accepted independent standard for workplace conditions. It can be applied to any company, of any size, worldwide. SA 8000 certification addresses issues such as forced labor and child labor, health and safety in the workplace, freedom of association and collective bargaining rights, discrimination, disciplinary practices, working hours, compensation, and management systems.

The ISO 14001 standard provides a framework that defines rules for integrating environmental concerns into an organization's activities to manage environmental impacts. This framework aims to reconcile the operational imperatives of the organization with environmental responsibility.

EcoVadis certification is an assessment and rating system for corporate social responsibility (CSR) performance. The EcoVadis rating covers a wide range of non-financial management systems, focusing on the impacts in the following areas: Environment, Social & Human Rights, Ethics, and Responsible Purchasing.
Each company is evaluated on essential issues based on its size, location, and industry sector. Assessments are evidence-based and refined into clear evaluation sheets, providing scores ranging from zero to one hundred (0-100) and medals (bronze, silver, gold) where applicable. Furthermore, evaluation sheets contain guidance on strengths and areas for improvement that evaluated companies can use to focus their sustainability efforts and develop corrective action plans to enhance their CSR performance.

The RJC (Responsible Jewellery Council) is a nonprofit international organization that brings together over 1,000 companies and suppliers in the jewelry, watch, and watchmaking industries. Its aim is to promote responsible practices by establishing corporate policies that uphold ethical, social, and environmental issues. Member companies must adhere to these principles by committing through a declaration according to the COP (Code of Practices). This certification covers the entire supply chain, from mining to retail. Originally focused on gold, diamonds, and platinum, the RJC certification has expanded since 2019 to include colored gemstones and silver as well.
